Maintenance of ventilation systems: tips by one of the leading industrial fans and blowers manufacturers

The performance of a ventilation system depends on its regular maintenance. When a ventilation system is well-maintained, it works optimally, regulates airflow better and avoids condensation. As one of the leading industrial fans and blowers manufacturers, we share with you some useful tips on maintaining ventilation systems and their components:

  • Fans: Be it home, office or industrial set up, fans promote air circulation. Fans must be properly maintained so that the rotating parts are in good condition. The bearings must be lubricated, drive belts must be tightened and anti-vibration mounts must be checked from time to time. To prevent the dust build-up to affect the functioning of the fans, the impeller must be cleaned. This can be a particular problem in exhaust fans that are used in greasy environments such as industrial settings. Build up of dirt on the impeller blades can cause the fan to make excessive noise. It may also affect the fan’s aerodynamic performance. Care must be taken when cleaning the blades, since mechanical damage can also result in a fan’s poor performance.
  • Air filters: Filters are a very important part of a ventilation system. Always choose the grade of the filter with caution. An appropriate filter is the one that is chosen as per particulates in the air. Using lower grade filters may reduce the HVAC system’s performance, leading to potential indoor air quality problems for the building occupants. Make sure that the air filters are located away from dirty or dusty areas. This will reduce the load on the filters. Many HVAC systems these days come with replacement indicators. Regular visual inspection of air filters must be done. A low pressure drop may indicate that the filter or a filter element is mechanically damaged.
  • Ductwork and air distribution systemThe ductwork system must be cleaned and maintained properly. Accumulation of dust can lead to the growth of mold and mildew which can cause health problems for the building occupants If the ductwork and air distribution systems are in tight areas such as shafts or crawlspace, proper access must be provided to facilitate proper cleaning.
  • Air treatment plant: In many setups, there are a number of air treatment components such as heaters, coolers, humidifiers, heat recovery devices. The performance of these equipment heat exchangers is critically dependent on regular maintenance. All the coils must be cleaned, so that dirt does not enter the ductwork system. In addition to cleaning, the coils should be sterilised, especially if they operate under moist air conditions.
