Things to consider before buying an MCB

Circuit breakers are one of the most common and important components of switchgear. During an electrical fault, circuit breakers sense the anomaly and interrupt the power flow. This helps in minimizing the damage to the system. Their purpose is to interrupt current flow after protective relays detect a fault. MCB is an important type of circuit breaker. MCB is Miniature Circuit Breaker and it switches OFF the electrical circuit during any abnormal condition such as overloading and short circuit. As one of the leading switchgear manufacturers in the UAE, we share with you things that you should consider before buying an MCB:

Types of MCB

It is important to know about the different types of MCBs to choose the one that suits your needs. There are about six different types of MCB:

  • Type A: Type A trips off when current exceeds 2-3 times the actual current rating. It is better suited for semiconductor devices.
  • Type B: Type B trips off when the current is 3-5 times the actual flow. They are better suited to protect cables and wires.
  • Type C: Type C MCB cuts power supply when the current is 5-10 times more than the actual current rating. They are used for domestic appliances.
  • Type D: Type D automatically cuts off power supply when current rating exceeds by 10-20 times the current rate. This MCB is ideal for transformers, winding motors and machinery.
  • Type K: The type K MCB trips when the current rating exceeds by 8-12 times. They are ideal for heavy-duty devices.
  • Type Z: Type Z MCB trips when the current value exceeds 2- 3 times the rated current. It operates really fast. It has an operating time of less than 0.1 second.

Selection criteria

The most important factor to consider is the current rating. However, there are other factors like the following that you must keep in mind:

  • Voltage and frequency of the device that needs protection
  • Is it AC or DC?
  • Operating conditions such as the temperature, corrosion and radiation

As one of the leading switchgear manufacturers in the UAE, we offer a wide range of MCBs. Our MCBs are used in residential, commercial and industrial sectors. They are designed for improved operation safety, continuity of service and convenience. They have a quick trip mechanism and have 12 plates arc chute for effective arc quenching. They are designed as per IS/IEC 60898 - 1 / EN 60898 specifications.
